Joint Advocacy Correspondence: Senator Fetterman, Pennsylvania Provider Advocacy Coalition
January 9, 2023
The Honorable John Fetterman
The United States Senate
B40B Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Fetterman:
Congratulations on your election to the United States Senate! The Pennsylvania Provider Advocacy Coalition looks forward to working with you to advance health care for all Pennsylvanians.
The Pennsylvania Provider Advocacy Coalition is a diverse group of health provider organizations working to advance policies to promote coverage and improve health outcomes for the citizens of Pennsylvania. The coalition also serves as a resource to legislators and policymakers relating to Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and hosts periodic educational forums.
Federal support of the Medicaid program is vital to providing care for Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens, improving access to care and health outcomes, and sustaining economic growth. To allow the program to continue to fulfill this important role, the coalition advocates for policies that address core challenges such as:
- Recruiting, educating, and maintaining a robust health and human services workforce
- Tackling the human and economic impact of a drastically changing health care environment
- Understanding the data and the need for new approaches to prevent mass violence, promote gun safety, and adequately fund mental health services
- Planning for Pennsylvania’s rapidly aging population
- Addressing social determinants of health such as food insecurity, housing, and transportation
- Supporting value-based care and payment by establishing practical, achievable, and patient-centered measures
- Expanding access to medical care via telehealth
- Promoting provider viability by ensuring adequate Medicaid payment
We would like to partner with you on these and other issues to continue to expand access and improve care to Pennsylvanians during the coming years. Attached is a copy of a Medicaid educational presentation delivered to state legislators last year that will provide useful background information about the Medicaid program in Pennsylvania, as well as detail its impact during the public health emergency and future challenges. We also have attached a listing of members of the Pennsylvania Provider Advocacy Coalition.
The Pennsylvania Provider Advocacy Coalition holds periodic conference calls throughout the year, and we welcome an opportunity to speak with you and your policy team. We will follow-up leading into the beginning of the 118th Congress to identify a mutually convenient date for a discussion.
Again, congratulations on your victory. We look forward to engaging with you and your policy team during the coming months.
Sincerely,
