Workforce Solutions Spotlight: Temple Health
November 06, 2024
As Pennsylvania ages, many health care professionals are approaching retirement just as the need for health care is rapidly growing. Hospitals, health systems, and the health care community are leading the way in growing the next generation of health care professionals to care for Pennsylvanians and our communities.
This year, Temple Health announced its Nursing Scholars Program to support aspiring registered nurses (RN) and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) with the education they need to enter health care careers.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Temple Health and future RNs and CRNAs,” said Chaudron Carter Short, PhD, EdD, RN, NEA-BC, executive vice president and chief nurse executive, Temple Health. “Innovative partnerships like these are critical for developing the next generation of nursing professionals, and will help ensure that Temple Health has the highly-skilled workforce we need to succeed for years to come.”
Here’s what you need to know:
- About the program: Through the program, students applying to or enrolled in a participating RN or CRNA program would be eligible for up to $40,000 of loan sponsorship if they commit to working for Temple Health upon graduation.
- Nursing Scholars also is working with the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists (PANA) to provide additional support for CRNA Nursing Scholars.
- Background: Nursing Scholars is a nationwide initiative that builds partnerships between health systems and nursing schools. Temple’s program is supported partly by a state grant.
- Why it matters: Pennsylvania needs a persistent and sustained effort to grow and support the health care workforce as the demand for care continues to increase.
- Quotable: “Pennsylvania has among the highest per-capita nursing shortage rates in the country, and we believe this program can be part of the solution,” said Samuel Maron, MD, senior vice president of university to employer initiatives for the Nursing Scholars Program.
