Workforce Solutions Spotlight: Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center

October 30, 2024

As Pennsylvania ages, many health care professionals are approaching retirement just as the need for health care is rapidly growing. Hospitals, health systems, and the health care community are leading the way in growing the next generation of health care professionals to care for Pennsylvanians and our communities.

This year, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center announced an educational partnership with a local high school to support students interested in health care careers.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • About:  The Health Education, And Learning (H.E.A.L.) program introduces students at Bishop McCort Catholic High School to clinical and non-clinical professions within health care, including physicians, nursing, radiology, laboratory, coding, emergency medicine technicians, managers, medical writers, and administrators.
  • How it works:   The program is a collaboration between Bishop McCort faculty and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s health professionals. Students enrolled in the program also receive hands-on education through on-site job shadowing at the hospital.
  • Why it matters:  Getting students interested in health care can put them on the track for long-term, high-demand opportunities across the workforce.
  • Quotable:  “Health care remains the number one industry in the United States, and it will continue to grow,” said Rodney Reider, market president and CEO of Conemaugh Health System. “This program will introduce students to the breadth of career options available in healthcare and provide a path for education, whether through traditional degree programs or one of the many non-traditional certificates and job-training tracks.”
