What’s Next for ACA Coverage?
Consumers are running out of time for 2025 coverage
January 09, 2025
Pennsylvania consumers have just one week to select health insurance through Pennie for 2025.
Beyond this open enrollment period, we could see some big changes for Pennie and other Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces after this year.
Here’s what you need to know:
- The deadline: Consumers have until January 15 to select coverage starting February 1.
- What to watch: This year, Congress will decide whether to extend the expansion of subsidies that have lowered the cost of coverage. The subsidies save consumers about $800 annually on their premiums, according to federal estimates.
- Nearly 24 million consumers have selected coverage for 2025, including 3.2 million new consumers.
- Pennsylvania perspective: About nine out of 10 Pennie customers qualify for tax credits to help reduce monthly payments and out-of-pocket costs.
- Scope your options: Plans and provider networks can change from year to year, so new and returning consumers should carefully scope out available options.
- Quotable: “Having health coverage is important to protect yourself and your family from medical costs that come with injury and illness, and to access important preventive health care services to catch problems early,” Pennie Executive Director Devon Trolley said last month.
HAP encourages everyone who needs coverage to evaluate their options ahead of the January 15 deadline.
Pennsylvanians looking for health coverage can visit Pennie or or call Pennie’s customer service at (844) 844-8040.
