The Top 10 Health Tech Hazards for 2025

December 05, 2024

The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care tops ECRI’s  list of health technology hazards for 2025.

In its annual list, released this week, the health care safety organization notes the balance between AI’s potential to create efficiencies and its potential risks. The technology plays a growing role across the sector for everything from imaging to diagnosis and documentation and scheduling.

As AI is implemented across sectors, it’s important to protect against false or misleading results and prevent bias in data from affecting results, the organization noted.

“Balancing innovation in AI with privacy and safety will be one of the most difficult, and most defining, endeavors of modern medicine,” said Marcus Schabacker, ECRI president and CEO.

The report identifies “which risks should be given attention now to help care providers, device manufacturers, and others prioritize their patient safety efforts,” Schabacker added.

The use of AI in health care is a hot topic in Pennsylvania and across the nation. Earlier this fall, the Pennsylvania Health Insurance Committee hosted a hearing with leaders from across the sector to discuss the topic.
