PA Hospitals Inspire Hope during National Hospital Week

May 10, 2021

As we celebrate National Hospital Week, HAP is proud to highlight the extraordinary efforts of Pennsylvania’s hospitals and health systems as they support their communities and provide outstanding care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the theme for National Hospital Week is “Inspiring Hope through Healing.” Throughout the pandemic, Pennsylvania’s hospitals have embodied this theme, providing exemplary care and delivering hope to millions across the commonwealth.

Last, week the Patient Safety Authority released its annual report showcasing how hospitals have evolved to meet the needs of patients during the pandemic. It also included the winners of the I AM Patient Safety 2021 Achievement Awards. This year’s award winners improved outcomes for patients with COVID-19; reduced patient falls and injuries; addressed health disparities; developed new safety-reporting systems; and designed specialized training for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, among other initiatives.

“Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, health care facilities across the commonwealth, United States, and abroad rose to the occasion and proved that ingenuity, tenacity, and teamwork can overcome anything,” the report said.

This year, Pennsylvania’s hospitals are inspiring hope by:

  • Delivering new solutions to provide safe treatment for patients during the pandemic and continuing their commitment to improving quality and access for patients
  • Serving as trusted voices within their communities about the latest developments in public health
  • Helping Pennsylvania return to its “new normal” with each administered dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
  • Seamlessly adapting their operations to compassionately care for patients during the pandemic and always ensuring patients are at the center of care

The American Hospital Association (AHA) released a Public Service Announcement for National Hospital Week thanking the nation’s hospitals for the millions of lives saved, vaccines given, and moments of caring during the past year. During National Hospital Week, the AHA continues to recognize the entire hospital and health system community for its important work.

In addition, Senator Michele Brooks (R-Greenville) today read a resolution formally recognizing National Hospital Week and saluting the health care workforce for its commitment to community health. “The observance is a reminder that hospitals are foundations of the communities that built them, serving people from all walks of life,” the resolution said.

HAP proudly joins the organizations celebrating Pennsylvania’s hospitals and health systems for everything they do across the commonwealth. HAP encourages everyone to share their appreciation for hospitals and the millions of health care workers by posting online or via social media with the tag #hospitalweek. Health care workers also are encouraged to share their stories and moments of inspiration online.
