National Donate Life Month Kicks Off in PA with Hospital Challenge
April 01, 2025
The annual Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge commenced today, showcasing the lifesaving opportunity of organ donation during National Donate Life Month.
The HAP Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge encourages awareness of organ donation and designations within hospitals and communities. This month is an important time to emphasize the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donors, and to celebrate those that have saved lives through their donations.
Here’s three things to know from Donate Life America:
- The need is great: There are more than 6,000 men, women and children throughout the commonwealth waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
- Time is of the essence: About 5,600 people in the U.S. die each year while on the transplant waiting list.
- The good news: During 2024, more than 24,000 donors brought new life to recipients and their families. In 2022, the U.S. reached a historic milestone, achieving its 1 millionth organ transplant, more than any other country in the world.
HAP is grateful to our members for their outstanding commitment to increase organ donation awareness and designations within their hospital and community and their participation in this year’s challenge. Winners will be announced later this year.
HAP has partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE), and the Gift of Life Donor Program—the two organ procurement organizations serving Pennsylvania—to support the hospital challenge.
