Hospitals Secure Key Resources in 2024–2025 State Budget

July 23, 2024

This budget season, HAP and Pennsylvania hospitals outlined several key priorities for lawmakers in Harrisburg—and that advocacy yielded strong returns in the 2024–2025 budget.

  • What happened:  Earlier this month, the General Assembly passed and Governor Josh Shapiro signed a spending plan for 2024–2025 that includes additional resources for rural hospitals, maternal health, behavioral health, and the workforce.
  • What it means for hospitals:  Hospitals need champions in Harrisburg who understand the critical role you play in your communities. Lawmakers went back and forth over several months to reduce the topline budget number, but showed strong support for these key health issues.
  • Quotable:  In a statement, HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings said: “HAP and Pennsylvania hospitals thank legislative leaders and Governor Shapiro for prioritizing key health care priorities in the state budget: Bolstering care that supports healthy moms and babies and preserving access to hospital care in rural communities.”
