Celebrating PA’s Public Health Workforce during National Public Health Week

April 08, 2021

During National Public Health Week, HAP joins organizations across the nation highlighting the importance of building healthy communities and celebrating the extraordinary efforts of our country’s public health workforce.

Celebrated annually during the first full week of April, National Public Health Week recognizes the nation’s public health workers and the essential challenges facing the nation’s overall health.

The event, organized by the American Public Health Association, focuses on “Building Bridges to Better Health” and provides daily resources on several key topics, including:

  • Rebuilding the nation’s public health infrastructure
  • Advancing racial equity
  • Strengthening community
  • Galvanizing climate justice
  • Building COVID-19 resilience
  • Uplifting mental health and wellness
  • Elevating the essential workforce

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden issued a proclamation celebrating National Public Health Week and encouraging everyone to do their part by wearing a mask, practicing physical distancing, and getting the COVID-19 vaccine when it is their turn. He said the nation also must address the health disparities that have only worsened during the pandemic.

“As we continue working tirelessly to defeat the pandemic and build a stronger public health system for the future, I ask every American to mark National Public Health Week by remembering all those who give their time, expertise, and care—and even put their lives on the line—in service of a healthier, safer, and stronger America for all of us,” President Biden said.

HAP applauds Pennsylvania’s public health workers for their tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The pandemic has amplified the need to invest in Pennsylvania’s public health infrastructure and to support the state's public health workforce.

Across Pennsylvania, hospitals and health systems are dedicated to improving the health of their patients, their employees, and the communities they serve. HAP is proud to collaborate with Pennsylvania’s hospitals and health systems as they continue this important work.
