Celebrating Pa. Donor Day

August 01, 2024

Today marks PA Donor Day, a time to celebrate the lifesaving gift of organ donation and call for all Pennsylvanians to sign up as organ and tissue donors.

The fifth annual event, hosted by Donate Life PA, brings us together to:

  • Raise awareness of the critical need for more donors.
  • Dispel myths and misconceptions about donation.
  • Urge family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to sign up as a donor.

The event comes as more than 6,500 people are waiting for a transplant in the commonwealth. Every 10 minutes, another Pennsylvanian is added to the waiting list, highlighting the need to grow the number of donors. The designation also coincides with National Minority Donor Awareness Month, which seeks to bring awareness across multicultural communities.

The goal for this year is to ensure 50 percent of eligible Pennsylvanians are registered.

This month, HAP will recognize the 2024 HAP Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge participants for their outstanding work to increase organ donation awareness and designations within their hospital and community.
