Stigma—The Barrier to Help and Hope

Location: Online

Registration Deadline: April 16, 2020

Overview

This presentation will look at the significant impact that stigma has on individuals with substance use challenges, as well as the clinical teams who provide treatment and support. We will explore the common causes for stigma in a clinical work setting and talk about ways to reduce stigma and increase recovery thinking. We will learn how positive strength- based approaches can reduce stigma. We will have a greater understanding of how stigma takes away hope from the patient as well as the provider and ultimately works against the completion of goals. We will share how providing hope not only reduces stigma but creates a healthy and supportive work environment.
