PA Hospitals Contribute to Record Number of Organ Donations in 2016

Organ transplants performed in the United States in 2016 reached a new record high for the fourth consecutive year, according to preliminary data from United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). UNOS found that hospitals across the nation performed more than 33,600 organ transplants in 2016, 8.5 percent more than in 2015, and nearly a 20 percent more than in 2012.

PA Hospitals’ Economic Contributions Grow to $115B, Up $4B from 2014

News Release: With a healthy economy high on the public’s list of priorities during this presidential election year, HAP releases its 2015 economic impact analysis showing that Pennsylvania hospitals continue to be a major contributor to the state and local economies.

All hospitals—not-for-profit and investor-owned combined—contributed nearly $115 billion to local and state economies during 2015, an increase of $4 billion from 2014.

CMS Announces New Payment Model for Nursing Facility Care; Western PA Collaborative Recognized for Success in Reducing Avoidable Hospitalizations

March 25, 2016

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced phase two of the Initiative to Reduce Avoidable Hospitalizations among Nursing Facility Residents.

After demonstrating strong success in phase one, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Community Provider Services was selected as one of six enhanced care and coordination providers to be awarded a cooperative agreement for the four-year payment phase.
