HAP, PA Lawmakers Share Insight, Importance of Achieving Telemedicine Legislation

The Pennsylvania Chapters of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society hosted a webinar at HAP’s headquarters in Harrisburg about the ongoing effort to implement telemedicine legislation in the commonwealth. During the webinar, HAP President and Chief Executive Officer Andy Carter was on hand to provide an update on the collective effort of HAP and the Pennsylvania Medical Society to achieve telemedicine legislation.

HAP Leader Helps Create Hospital Guide to Ensure Health Care Services in Vulnerable Rural, Urban Communities

News Release:  A new report issued by the American Hospital Association (AHA) addresses ways in which hospitals can help ensure access to essential health care services in vulnerable rural and urban communities. 

Andy Carter, president and chief executive officer of HAP, serves on the 29-person health care leader task force that developed the report.The task force met with policymakers and hospital and community leaders during a 15-month period to identify essential health services, strategies to meet community needs, and barriers to those strategies.

Governor Wolf Signs Key Measure to Increase Access to Health Care in Commonwealth

Today Governor Tom Wolf signed House Bill 1619—Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (Interstate Compact) legislation—into law as Act 112 of 2016. The legislation enables Pennsylvania to join an Interstate Compact that already includes 17 other states, allowing eligible licensed physicians in one state to treat patients in other states via telehealth and streamlines the licensing process for licensed physicians looking to practice in the state.

Interstate Compact Legislation Passes Senate Unanimously, On its Way to Governor’s Desk

October 18, 2016

House Bill 1619—Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (Interstate Compact) legislation—completed its final hurdle in the legislature by passing the Senate unanimously, 49–0. Sponsored by Representative Jesse Topper (R-Bedford), House Bill 1619 enables Pennsylvania to join an Interstate Compact that already includes 16 other states.
