New Medicaid Expansion Website Launched; HAP Learns Additional Details Related to Transition

February 12, 2015

The Wolf Administration has released a new website to provide information about its efforts to expand Medicaid in Pennsylvania.

The new website, HealthChoicesPA.com, provides explanations about some of the key components and transition issues, and will contain information for providers and consumer resources.

Related to the transition to Medicaid expansion, HAP has learned that:

  • The Department of Human Services (DHS) has submitted its proposed Adult benefit package to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for review. This single benefits package for adults will replace the three HealthyPA benefits packages.
  • DHS transition efforts will be partially affected by timing requirements related to public notice filings and the receipt of federal approvals, and by the implementation of information technology system changes.
  • In the near future, the first actions to be taken include: new enrollments into the Private Coverage Option (PCO) plans will cease; the use of the health assessment screening tool will be discontinued; and former GA and Select Plan individuals will be among the first to be transferred into the new Adult benefits plan.
  • PCO enrollees will be relocated into a “sister MA MCO plan” (same insurer) when possible.
  • Full transition of individuals out of PCO plans is targeted to occur by “the fall” of 2015.

HAP will advise members about the new developments from Medicaid expansion as they become available. Members are encouraged to check for postings or links to new materials and Information at www.healthchoicespa.com on a regular basis.
