Hospitals Across Pennsylvania Celebrate National Nurses Week

May 09, 2019

This week, hospitals across the commonwealth are celebrating National Nurses Week, a time to recognize the critical role that nurses play in our everyday lives, and say a resounding “Thank you!” to all of our nurses.

A nurse appears with the text "You don't build a house with out its foundation. You don't build a hospital without its nurses."Nursing is among the most trusted professions, and Pennsylvania’s nurses are a vital part of the care team. This year’s theme is “Nurses4Us: Elevating the Profession!” In Pennsylvania, HAP is working to elevate nurses by working with member hospitals, lawmakers, and stakeholders to advocate for policies and legislation that:

  • Improve workplace safety for health care workers
  • Remove the requirement that a nurse’s last name be placed on his or her name badge
  • Allow advanced practice professionals to practice at the top of their license
  • Invest in additional nurse education slots

Additionally, through HAP’s Health Care Workforce task force, hospitals and experts are assessing the current health care landscape and strategizing ways to help address today’s shortages and meet the needs of the workplace of the future.

Pennsylvania’s hospitals are honoring their nurses within their four walls and throughout their social media channels, celebrating the workplace accomplishments and dedication of their nurses. Through HealthyMePA, HAP’s online community, and through the association’s social media channels, HAP is celebrating National Nurses Week by elevating and sharing about how nurses go above and beyond to help their patients and their families.

HAP wants to know how your hospital is honoring nurses this week. Please send photos, stories, and information about your National Nurses Week events to Jennifer Collins, HAP’s director, public affairs.
