Celebrate National Nurses Week 2019, Recognize Pennsylvania Nurses
April 23, 2019
During 1993, the American Nurses Association (ANA) declared May 6–12 as the national week to celebrate the nursing profession. The theme for this year’s National Nurses Week is Nurses4Us: Elevating the Profession!
HAP encourages hospitals, patients, elected officials, and community leaders to make plans to recognize the many contributions of America’s four million registered nurses. ANA offers many tools and resources which may be used to celebrate the week.
As critical and trusted members of the care team, nurses work closely with physicians and other advanced practice professionals to safely deliver the right care in the right place at the right time. Health care delivery is changing. Population health and community-based care is expanding. The state’s aging population continues to grow. Violence and natural disasters are on the rise. In this environment, our nurses provide critical stability, communication, and reassurance for patients and their families.
In recognition of the dramatic shifts in health care and the important role that nurses play in caring for Pennsylvania’s residents and everyone who seeks health services, HAP is advocating for policies and legislation to:
- Improve workplace safety
- Allow professionals to practice to the full scope of their license
- Advance policies that increase workplace diversity
- Increase education and the training pipeline in order to meet Pennsylvania’s health care workforce needs for the future
- Improve educational pathways to advanced nursing degrees
As we approach May 6, HAP encourages its members and state and community leaders to consider ways to say thank you and to recognize Pennsylvania nurses.
