Legislation Introduced to Remove Last Name on Health Care Worker Identification
January 31, 2019
Representative Pam Snyder (D-Greene) reintroduced her legislation, House Bill 39, to remove the last name of a health care worker from their facility identification badge.
The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) supports Representative Snyder’s effort to ensure hospitals and health system employees are safer at their place of work. In turn, this will enable them to focus on the care of their patients every day.
Citing serious workplace violence trends and access to social media and personal information, Representative Snyder noted that “oftentimes, the largest sources of violence towards health care workers are patients and other clients and customers.”
This simple administrative change can have a large impact on the safety of the health care industry’s greatest asset, employees, both inside and outside of the workplace.
