New Data Submission System for Clinicians in the Quality Payment Program
January 03, 2018
Yesterday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new data submission system for clinicians in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) aimed at easing the reporting burden of the program. HAP is supportive of efforts to streamline reporting.
Historically, under legacy CMS programs, clinicians had to submit performance data using multiple systems, however, this announcement introduced a new, streamlined data submission process within one data system.
Providers can begin to submit their 2017 performance data on the new system on the Quality Payment Program website from January 2, 2018 to March 31, 2018. Groups using the CMS Web Interface have a shortened reporting period from January 22, 2018 to March 16, 2018.
Providers who need assistance with the data submission system may contact the Quality Payment Program by email or toll free at (866) 288-8292.
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) required the implementation of the QPP. The program—which transitions providers from Medicare payments based on volume to payments based on value—is comprised of two paths including the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and the Alternative Payment Models (APMs).
In addition, HAP recently released a report on value-based payment in Pennsylvania which includes an assessment of physician readiness for MIPS and APMs.
