2.9 Million Pennsylvanians Insured through Medicaid and CHIP; New Data from CMS

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a preliminary August 2017 report and supporting data on Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollment stats earlier this week.
Key findings include:
- More than 2.9 million Pennsylvanians enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP
- 74.3 million individuals enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP across 50 states and Washington D.C., including:
- 51.9 million in states that have expanded Medicaid
- 22.4 million in states that have not expanded Medicaid
Through Medicaid expansion and other provisions of the Affordable Care Act, Pennsylvania has seen a dramatic decline in uninsured, from 10.2 percent in 2010 to 5.6 percent in 2016, a 45 percent decrease.
HAP continues to advocate for the enactment of legislation to extend CHIP funding that supports more than 176,000 Pennsylvania children in accessing affordable.
