Report Provides Recommendations for Strengthening Health Insurance Marketplace Websites
April 24, 2017
The National Partnership for Women & Families recently released a report evaluating federal and state-based marketplace websites for health insurance enrollment. The progress report is an analysis of how the exchanges are providing resources to enroll consumers in health insurance coverage. The organization has provided a comprehensive analysis of each open enrollment period since 2015.
The National Partnership for Women & Families reviews metrics identified as important to consumers, including information about costs, quality ratings, and prescription drugs in specific plans. In this report, the organization provided nine recommendations around three central themes. The themes are:
- Supporting enrollment and website navigation: consumer outreach and assistance
- Helping consumers differentiate among plan choices: Plan display options
- Making key plan information accessible: Marketplace transparency
The organization highlights the important role that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has played in providing access to care for millions of Americans across the country. By evaluating the implementations and operations of federally facilitated marketplaces and state-based marketplaces, the organization identified best practices to help consumers get enrolled in a health insurance plan in future open enrollments.
HAP and the Pennsylvania hospitals and health systems continue to promote health insurance coverage for all Pennsylvanians. To date, ACA provisions have supported more than 1.1 million Pennsylvanians through health insurance coverage, providing better access to health care services and dramatically reducing the uninsured population in Pennsylvania. HAP continues to provide resources on the effects of the ACA in Pennsylvania on its website.
HAP also provides dedicated Pennsylvania resources for health care consumers. Care in Pennsylvania is a user-friendly website for Pennsylvanians that provides quality and cost information about health care delivery in the commonwealth. Healthy Me PA is an interactive digital community dedicated to supporting healthy engagements in communities throughout Pennsylvania. Healthy Me PA provides information for managing chronic conditions and healthy behaviors, as well as how to navigate the health care delivery system.
