Pennsylvania Hospital Employment Reaches All-Time High

Pennsylvania hospital employment increased by 600 jobs from November 2016 to December 2016, for total direct employment of 274,900. This is 3,100 more hospital jobs than one year ago, December 2015, when the total number was 271,800.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry reports that in December Pennsylvania’s total nonfarm seasonally adjusted jobs decreased to 5,946,900. This was a decrease of 7,700 jobs. The largest increase in jobs in December 2016 was in the Nursing and residential care facilities super sector (+1,800 jobs). The civilian labor force in Pennsylvania decreased by 19,000 to 6,510,000, and unemployment decreased by 7,000 in December 2016.
The state’s unemployment rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point from November 2016 to 5.6 percent.
