CMS Releases Final 2017 Open Enrollment Data; More Than 426,000 Pennsylvanians Enrolled in the Marketplace

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released the health insurance marketplace enrollment data for the 2017 open enrollment period that ended January 31.
In Pennsylvania, 426,059 individuals signed up for health insurance coverage through the federal health insurance marketplace.
CMS also indicated the following enrollment by designated market areas in Pennsylvania:
- Wilkes Barre/Scranton—46,783
Nationally, CMS indicated that there were three million new enrollees in the marketplace and 6.2 million that were returning consumers.
CMS will release the detailed 2017 plan selection information for the federal health insurance marketplace in March.
HAP has called for federal lawmakers to place a focus on the following priorities as they consider next steps with respect to the Affordable Care Act (ACA):
- Ensure continuity of coverage and care through access to a robust, competitive delivery system
- Ensure stable and sufficient funding for hospitals
- Maintain momentum in delivery system transformation and innovation
