Webinar Overview

Last month DHS published guidance to support implementation of Act 54 of 2018, the Pennsylvania law which complies with federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) and requires health care professionals, including those involved in the delivery or care of an infant affected by substance use or withdrawal symptoms resulting from prenatal drug exposure or a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, to notify the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) so that a plan of safe care can be developed.

A subsequent webinar will be provided to share good practices and examples from other hospitals to help you effectively implement these new guidelines.

Learning Objectives

During this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how federal and state laws promote opportunities for interdisciplinary professionals to work together to improve outcomes for women with an opioid disorder and their infants
  • Understand DHS protocols for health care providers related to universal screening of all pregnant patients for substance use and newborns for prenatal drug exposure or a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
  • Describe DHS notification requirements
  • Assess the guidance around convening the multidisciplinary team responsible for determining the lead entity in the development of each Plan of Safe Care

A valuable question and answer session will conclude the webinar.
