About the Workshop
Burnout among U.S. physicians continues to worsen. National surveys such as the Medscape Lifestyle Report 2016 show the continued trend towards job dissatisfaction among all medical specialties. Work hours have always been a stressor on physicians, but today they face increasing bureaucratic tasks and the integration of the EMR into clinical practice.
Health care organizations are addressing physician burnout. Tactics include resiliency training to improve coping skills, the use of scribes to reduce the impact of electronic documentation, and advancing health care teams to spread clinical burden. Some organizations are taking a system-wide approach.
