HAP is offering two hands-on regional workshops that will provide both hospitals and stakeholders valuable and current information on how Pennsylvania as a state is reacting to combat this tragic epidemic and what patient safety and quality leaders can do to help.
An estimated 44 people die every day in the United States from overuse of powerful prescription painkillers, from teens to senior citizens, in isolated rural towns and large cities alike. Drug overdose deaths across Pennsylvania increased 30 percent last year, according to the recent report from the Pennsylvania State Coroners Association. On average, ten Pennsylvanians die every day from drug misuse.
The staggering growth in the use of these prescription painkillers has fueled the nationwide epidemic of deaths. However, these medications remain a critical part of treatment for many patients.
In response, HAP is offering two hands-on regional workshops that will provide both hospitals and stakeholders valuable and current information on how Pennsylvania as a state is reacting to combat this tragic epidemic and what patient safety and quality leaders can do to help.
The workshop will feature Pennsylvania’s Physician General, Dr. Rachel Levine, who will offer some insight as to the state of opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania. The workshop will also offer two interactive panels to discuss new regulations and promising care delivery practices.
At the conclusion of this program participants will be able to:
- Gain a better understanding of impact of Pennsylvania’s opioid epidemic
- Learn how new PA laws and regulatory efforts aimed at curbing opioid misuse will impact care delivery
- Learn about promising practices for warm handoffs and care for infants who are exposed to substance prenatally
