Comment Letter to DHS on HealthChoices Physical Health Program

June 26, 2015

Secretary Ted Dallas
Pennsylvania Department of Human Services
333 Health and Welfare Building
P.O. Box 2675
Harrisburg, PA  17110-2675

SUBJECT: HealthChoices Program Request for Information (RFI)

Dear Secretary Dallas:

On behalf of The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), which represents approximately 240 member institutions, we appreciate the opportunity to provide comments about the request for information that will assist with the development of the HealthChoices physical health request for proposal.

HAP’s member hospitals and health systems provide health services across the continuum of care. In addition to acute care facilities, HAP members include rehabilitation hospitals, behavioral health and long-term care providers, hospice providers, and trauma facilities.

HAP member hospitals and health systems represent a key constituency of health care providers in the HealthChoices physical health program.

HAP commends the Department of Human Service’s goals for the HealthChoices program: improve access to care, improve the quality of health care, and stabilize spending.

Hospitals and health systems are in the process of transforming and innovating the health care that is delivered to patients and communities. We are pleased to see the department’s HealthChoices program will evolve to reflect the changing health care environment.

Thank you for your consideration of HAP’s comments about the RFI. If you have any questions, contact me at (717) 561-5344, or Norris Benns, vice president, insurance and managed care, at (215) 575-3737.
